NABET-CWA Local 21 Starts Radio Campaign as Talks Between Company and Union Resume
Albany, NY-January 30,2006. NABET-CWA Local 21 will start running radio ads
in its effort to get its message out to viewers and advertisers of WRGB-TV/CBS 6. The union currently has billboards
throughout the Capital Region as well as a "grass roots" lawn sign campaign.
CBS 6, owned by Freedom Communications of Irvine, California, is proposing 15% pay cuts for many union members
and turning some full-time jobs into part-time.
The ads will start on WROW-AM 590 and Magic 100.9 FM. They will air on other stations in the near
future.
On Saturday, January 28, NABET-CWA employees and their families held an informational rally in front of
Huck Finn's Warehouse in Albany, the site of CBS 6 sponsored auditions for the Survivor TV series. They were
joined by members of other unions, including NABET-CWA employees of WNYT-TV, PEF and the Bricklayers Union among
others. Local politicians including Albany Mayor Gerald Jennings visited with rally participants.
NABET-CWA represents photographers, engineers and technicians at the station. They have been
working without a contract since an extension expired in September. Talks between the company and union are set to resume
Tuesday, January 31.
